The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Digital Camera records images at a resolution of up to 10.1 megapixel and incorporates a premium wide-angle LEICA lens with an 18x optical zoom and a focal length range equivalent to 27- 486mm, ideal for tight indoor shots and long-distance action photos.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Digital Camera Overview

The LUMIX DMC-FZ28 digital camera boasts a premium 27mm wide-angle LEICA lens with an 18x optical zoom, ideal for tight indoor shots and long-distance action photos. The 10.1 mega pixel digital camera also features an enhanced Intelligent Auto Mode (iA), with the new AF (auto focus) Tracking function, making it easier for photographers at any level to shoot sharp, well-focused photos, even when the subject is moving making it ideal for action shots.

The AF Tracking function, the latest component to be added to Panasonics iA system, allows users to lock focus on a moving subject. The camera then automatically tracks the subject as it moves, keeping it in focus without the need to hold the shutter halfway down. AF Tracking makes it easier to capture moving subjects and spur-of-the-moment action shots. The AF Tracking technology also improves Face Detection (up to 15 faces), by providing continuous adjustment of the focus and exposure, even if the face is turned away from the camera.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Digital Camera user reviews

"Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Digital Camera has done a excellent job..great picture quality and easy to use."

"I use the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Digital Camera as an everyday camera to document written reports and personally for family and fun. The photo image quality is outstanding for a camera that is not an SLR. The FZ28 is versatile and makes excellent photos in the Basic Intelligent Auto mode and can make fantastic photos using the Advanced and Advanced Scene modes or Manual settings. The camera controls are user friendly. For changing menu settings quickly, the Joystick is easy to use if it is moved deliberately and not too hurriedly.

The FZ28 is incredibly lightweight for the features it packs. It weighs only 417 grams (15 ounces) with the included lithium battery pack installed. Battery life is very good when moderately using both zoom and flash. A spare battery pack is small in bulk (40% the size of four AA batteries) and weighs only 45 grams (38% the weight of four AA batteries). The included battery charger weighs just 65 grams and recharges in two hours.

The 2.7 inch LCD makes recording composition and evaluating playback comfortable. I would have preferred for the LCD not to be fixed and instead to be vari-angle to protect it. To insure that I do not damage the LCD while carrying the camera around my neck, I put a Boxwave screen protector on the LCD. The electronic viewfinder (EVF) of the FZ28 is a major move-up in size and functionality from the optical view finder of my old camera.

Having Leica lens is a great confidence builder that the camera will perform its best optically. The 18x zoom is phenomenally long, and I am sure of first shot satisfaction when handholding the camera zoomed in as far as 10x to12x. I credit the ability to get a good shot without bracing at medium long zooms to the excellent MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer of the FZ28. With the camera braced, I have made very good 3MP photos at 32.1x extended zoom (maximum optical zoom).

The built-in flash for this camera extends flash to 27.9 feet for wide and 17.7 feet for telephoto, much longer built-in flash range than comparable cameras. The burst mode feature gives a speed boost for taking three to five shots in quick succession. The audio recording is decent enough, but stereo would have been better. The Raw mode and HD movie capabilities are important to me. My HDTV now shows my slideshows and movies in 720p high definition, and with Raw I can touch up my favorite photos to their digital best. I am getting a lot more from the FZ28 than I ever expected."

"I purchased Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Digital Camera for my Dad, after he lost his Fuji. It is by far a much better camera, with a superb lens. Its about as close to the perfect camera as you will get for a point and shoot. the noise has been reduced over the F18, which my brother has. He sees it as a little better, and the price is excellent. I really like the HD video mode, which allows the camera to truly work as a video camera replacement when it would be nice to have one. The zoom is pretty much all you need for most use, and the low light performance is very good. The flash still shadows with the anti flare attachment, and there is no good place to store it, so just get rid of it. Its fairly compact, and feels a little light, but not as small as I would like (Nothing is totally perfect). All together it is an excellent camera which will suit most users for many years. It would make an excellent gift for someone who wants to have more than a point and shoot, but does not want to lug around the larger SLR's. Battery life is pretty good."

"Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Digital Camera is great if you want to start your first steps in photography. I'm just a beginner and it's fantastic to learn and adjust manual settings. I haven't used many manual options yet, but automatic mode it's fantastic, optical zoom absolutly incredible and battery life never seen before (new year party I did 300 photos with flash inside the disco and the battery was still alive).
I really recomend it!"

""I bought Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Digital Camera recently. Initially i was rather doubtful to buy Panasonic. I was strong believer of Canon and Nikon research in cameras. But when i went through reviews of Canon SX10IS, SX100IS, Nikon P80 and Panasonic FZ28S, i decided to go for panasonic for following reasons:

1. Same configuration in low price

2. Better reviews than the Canon and Nikon Cameras in the same range

3. Easy to carry in spite of 18x optical zoom (I did not want SLR.. it is very inconvenient on Hikes. I have used one before)

When i had my first photo session mainly indoor, i was really astonished to see the Intelligent Auto mode of Panasonic FZ28S. It is so powerful that you can actually focus on small objects and blur the rest of the background. It took really good indoor photos in low light. The IA mode selects the correct mode automatically and displays the focus. you can change the focus using AF lock features The portrait mode can even detect faces on the television screen."
